The predecessor of the FISU University World Cup-3x3 Basketball is the 3X3 FISU World University League, which was newly launched by the International University Sports Federation (FISU for short) in 2015. The first competition was launched in 2015, with FISU and FIBA directly inviting Major Basketball Teams (male and female basketball teams) from universities across five continents to compete for the league championship in Xiamen, Fujian. Starting from 2016, the tournament has developed a league system, establishing five major competition zones worldwide. Only the winning teams in each region can qualify to participate in the league finals. In 2019, in order to enhance the influence and publicity of the event worldwide, the 3X3 FISU World University League was officially renamed as the FISU University World Cup 3x3 Basketball. Huaqiao University has hosted the event 5 times, as organizing committee , from 2015 to 2019. This year, Huaqiao University will host the 2024 FISU UWC-3x3 basketball.
